Renewable Energy Projects in Samoa

Greenpower Samoa has developed, invested in, and upgraded solar energy infrastructure projects that support Samoa’s clean power generation, battery energy storage, and long-term energy resilience.

Built on Real Project Experience

Greenpower Samoa’s project history reflects more than a decade of practical renewable energy development in Samoa.

From grid-connected solar PV projects to solar infrastructure upgrades and solar-plus-storage development, our work is focused on building long-term clean energy assets that support Samoa’s national power system.

We believe renewable energy infrastructure should be reliable, scalable, and built for long-term value — not only for today’s electricity needs, but for Samoa’s future energy resilience.

Our Project Portfolio

A timeline of key renewable energy projects and milestones developed by Greenpower Samoa.

2014–2015
Samoa Airport Solar Project

Greenpower Samoa developed a 2.5MW grid-connected solar photovoltaic system at Samoa Airport, supporting renewable electricity generation at one of Samoa’s key infrastructure locations.

The project commenced operation in May 2015 and marked an important step in the development of utility-scale solar energy infrastructure in Samoa.

Located at a major national infrastructure site, the Samoa Airport Solar Project demonstrates Greenpower Samoa’s early role in supporting clean electricity generation and renewable energy development in the country.

  • Capacity 2.5MW solar PV

  • Location Samoa Airport

  • Project Type Grid-connected solar photovoltaic system

  • Operational Since May 2015

  • Project Role Development and delivery of solar PV infrastructure

  • Energy Focus Renewable electricity generation for Samoa’s power system

2015–2016
Racecourse Solar Project

In October 2015, Greenpower Samoa initiated a 3.3MW solar PV project at Racecourse, further expanding Samoa’s renewable energy generation capacity.

Key construction milestones were completed by the end of 2015, with full project completion achieved in April 2016.

The Racecourse Solar Project strengthened Greenpower Samoa’s practical experience in solar PV project development and contributed to the growth of renewable electricity infrastructure in Samoa.

  • Energy Focus Expansion of Samoa’s renewable generation capacity

2024
Solar Infrastructure Upgrade

In 2024, Greenpower Samoa expanded its renewable energy portfolio through the acquisition and renovation of an existing solar power station.

The upgrade added 5MW of solar capacity together with battery energy storage, strengthening Samoa’s renewable generation capability and supporting the development of integrated solar-plus-storage infrastructure.

This project reflects Greenpower Samoa’s long-term infrastructure mindset — not only developing new clean energy assets, but also improving and modernising existing renewable energy infrastructure for better performance and long-term value.

  • Capacity 5MW solar capacity

  • Technology Solar PV + battery energy storage

  • Project Type Acquisition, renovation, and infrastructure upgrade

  • Purpose Strengthening renewable generation and storage capability

  • Project Role Investment, upgrade, and asset development

2026
New 5MW Solar + BESS Project Agreement

In May 2026, Greenpower Samoa reached another major milestone by signing a new 5MW solar and battery energy storage project agreement with Samoa EPC.

Under the associated power sales arrangement, the project is expected to supply approximately 7.9 million kWh of electricity per year, equal to around 7.9GWh annually.

This project represents the next stage of Greenpower Samoa’s clean energy development in Samoa, combining solar generation with battery energy storage to support renewable electricity supply, grid resilience, and long-term energy security.

  • Capacity 5MW solar + BESS

  • Partner Samoa EPC

  • Expected Annual Supply Approximately 7.9 million kWh

  • Annual Energy Equivalent Approximately 7.9GWh

  • Project Type Solar generation with battery energy storage
